Movers & Shakers: Jonas Maon

Whenever I talk to someone & discover what they're passionate about, I feel myself drawn to that individual & I never want the conversation to end. I'm addicted to the way their eyes light up, as they describe their hobby in immense detail & their zest for life makes me feel like anything is possible. It's been awhile since my last blog interview, but I'm thrilled to share Jonas Maon's Movers & Shakers story, it captured my attention & renewed my love affair with blogging.

Jonas Maon at Red Bull BPM Party
Whenever I have a conversation with a friend, I like to reminisce about we how met; sometimes, I'll remember the exact details of our budding friendship & other times, neither party can recall how our paths crossed. Despite my fuzzy memory, about which event I met Jonas Maon (either the Red Bull BPM party or Bacardi Pool Party: Party Rock edition), I'm positive you'll find his creativity just as impressive as his humble personality.

Jonas Maon began his love affair with photography, after his long-time girlfriend, splurged on a Canon Rebel XS for his birthday. After receiving a steady stream of compliments about his photos, Jonas (who was initially an introvert), bravely stepped out of his comfort zone & practiced honing his skills by shooting people in the scene. Jonas diligently emailed Bar 35 & Apartment3 owners pictures of their events, which increased his confidence & opened opportunities with the MidWeek & Honolulu Pulse.

Jonas is no longer a freelance photographer with either of local entertainment websites; those experiences created a butterfly effect, which enabled him to become SUPERCW's official Bacardi Pool Party photographer, shoot for the governor's office, become the official Yelp Hawaii Elite photographer & the "Shift 2" photo contributor for Nonstop Honolulu's website.

Even though, Jonas created an impressive resume over a 2 year period & could easily be pidgeon-holed as an event photographer; however, Jonas plans to expand his range, by capturing the magic that happens behind-the-scenes.

The future is filled with endless possibilities for this freelance photographer who aspires to turn his part-time passion into a full-time job. Jonas eventually wants to marry his long-time girlfriend, collect more stamps in his passport & explore Europe's rich culture & cuisine. It's hard to believe how much he's accomplished in a short period of time & I can't wait to see how Jonas turns his part-time passion into a full-time freelance business.

Be sure to follow Jonas' progress as an event & lifestyle photographer, I guarantee you'll be impressed with his versatility & blown away by his humble personality.

Fresh Catch

Its never a good idea to read Yelp reviews when you're hungry; sometimes, I'll use the Yelp recommendation to locate new eateries I want to try & randomly across Fresh Catch. After researching their menu & drooling over the food photos, I decided to treat my raw-fish loving le boyfriend to Fresh Catch.

After showing him pictures of their appetizing menu, he was excited about our dinner plans but worried about my limited choices, since I can't stomach raw fish (I KNOW! What kind of Asian am I?). After informing him about my plan to devour their highly praised Furikake Salmon, we made the long drive Kaimuki.

I was surprised how busy Fresh Catch was & we immediately made my way to the register to place our order. I was thrilled when our food arrived & happy that my Furikake Salmon was on a bed of lettuce & perfected a tasty Teriyaki sauce (which makes my mouth water). I used my fork to effortlessly cut through the perfectly cooked salmon & hummed while I ate my meal.

Le boyfriend enjoyed the crispy Ahi Katsu & I couldn't help to notice le boyfriend kept staring at Fresh Catch's poke bar. He looked like a kid in a candy shop, as he carefully inspected the unusual combinations of poke & couldn't resist ordering two varieties of poke to go with his meal.

I knew we made the right dinner choice cause le boyfriend kept repeating, "Good choice!" throughout the night. I realized just how much he enjoyed the Yelp recommendation, after he dropped off a Furikake Salmon plate on my lunch break.

If you've got a craving for underwater food, be sure to check out Fresh Catch. If you're like me & you're unable to stomach raw fish, you can't go wrong with the Furikake Salmon.

Here's pictures from our trip:

Honolulu Farmers' Market

The only time, I'm consistently envious of other people is Saturday mornings, when I'm looking through my Twitter feed & see all the pictures from their trip to KCC's Farmers' Market. My simply*awesome sister & I ALWAYS talk about waking up early & going to KCC on Saturday morning, but neither of us are willing to sacrifice sleeping in on the weekends. I've accepted the fact, I'll most likely never attend KCC's Farmers' Market but I found an alternative that works for me.

After my appointment, I spontaneously decided to check out the Honolulu Farmers' Market & wanted to find out why my boss religiously makes a trip to stock up on veggies for the week. Looking at produce & eating delicious food at the Farmers' Market was a nice way to end my work day vs. sitting in traffic for an hour.

I walked around the Blaisdell Concert's lawn, before deciding what I wanted to devour & almost screamed with delight, when I saw Zaratez Mexicatessen had a tent. I've read numerous tweets praising the food created by this L.A. style taqueros & pretty much sang my order to the chef. I inhaled the heavenly aroma of my Mexican deliciousness & I couldn't stop smiling as I ate the mouth-watering tacos, rice & beans because hands down that was the BEST Mexican food I've ever had in my life. I can't wait to return to their tent & sample their entire menu!

I felt like everyone walking around the Farmers' Market had a drink in their hands & I wanted to fit in with the "cool kids." There's a vendor called Pacific Kool who sells a variety of Hawaiian Ginger drinks, I loved the flavor of my sweet + tangy flavor of my Berries & Ginger drink. I also loved that I didn't feel rushed when making a decision on which Hawaiian Ginger drink I wanted to order (when there's so many delicious options, I'm very indecisive).

The fastest way to my heart is through my stomach & you'll win me over with my favorite dessert is baklava. I've always had respect for people who go through the long & grueling process of making baklava + how could I not indulge my sweet tooth especially when it costs $1.50 a piece? I'm so happy I saved some baklava for the next day, it was easily the highlight of my lunch.

Heavenly Bakalava

I'm hoping to become a Farmer's Market regular & I can't think of a better way to support local farmers by keeping money within the community.
