Ill Hill Society "Rap Better" EP Release Party

One of my favorite hip hop groups is Ill Hill Society; they've got the swagger, dedication & talent to make them a household name. Even though, I was exhausted from a long school/work week, I couldn't sleep through Ill Hill Society's "Rap Better" Release Party; after all they did perform at my blog's 1st birthday party :D

Ill Hill Society's "Rap Better" EP Release Party was held at The Venue & they packed the house with die-hard fans who appreciate talent from the hip hop community; I've never seen such a strong following & diverse group of individuals who appreciate hardwork being manifested into reality. I love how the artists & group leading up to Ill Hill Society's performance was filled with energy, dynamic stage presence & heart; I also loved that the entire night felt like a party, with everyone dancing, screaming SWAG! & throwing up / \ (<---- those are hills for Ill Hill Society).

Even though my throat is sore from cheering throughout Ill Hill's performance, my left knee hurts from dancing in heels & I broke my camera's button from taking too many pictures last night; but I wouldn't have it any other way, since Christian, Cozy & Kwalified inspire me to continue pursuing my dreams!

Congratulations Ill Hill Society! I know that this is only the beginning of bigger & better things for you & if you missed the "Rap Better" EP Release Party, then you missed an opportunity to purchase one of the 200 limited copies of their "Rap Better" EPs. Maybe if you're lucky, there's a few copies left (better cross your fingers :)

Here's some of my favorite photos from the "Rap Better" EP Release party:

Honolulu Weekly's Social Lite "Two Great Tastes"

Before I met Christa Wittmier IRL, I religiously read her Social lite articles in the Honolulu Weekly & I always hoped that one day, my name would be highlighted in one of her articles. By the way, my dream came true! Check out the latest edition of Honolulu Weekly (August 24 - 30, 2011).

I've been anxiously anticipating my return to school, so I could finally work on my Bachelors degree, but I never expected the first week of school to kick my butt. I can't remember the last time I felt this exhausted or how many times I felt like an idiot for registering for an early morning class.

I needed something to help me get through this draining week & it came Wednesday night, in the form of a text message from Riana that read, "We're in the Honolulu Weekly!!!!!" Even though, I needed a 16 oz. can of Red Bull to survive Friday's classes, I'm still busting out my best dance moves & on cloud 14 (5+ than cloud 9 :) cause Christa aka superCW unexpectedly wrote an article called, "Two Great Tastes" about Riana of RUDIFIEDmedia, our upcoming event/"love child": 808 SPEAKERBOX & myself in this week's Social Lite.

Thank you Christa for writing lovely things about my blog & one of my BFFs. I can't describe how touched I am, because you've been someone that I deeply admire & respect; I hope this mini blog post, shows my appreciation & you should expect a bear hug, the next time I see you out & about.

Goodbye Summer, Hello BUSY BEE Status

Time flies when you're having fun & this past summer has been my favorite so far! I'm really glad I documented my fun-filled summer packed with foodie adventures, blog interviews & event media coverage. I'm also grateful for all of the wonderful people who made this the best summer yet, the opportunity to attend amazeball events; these memories will last a lifetime.

As much as I'd love for summer to last a few more weeks, I'm looking forward to finishing the rest of 2011 with a bang & creating memories that will live on for years to come.

IN4MATIX: The Hawaiian Plantation Collection

In4mation is one of my favorite brands; they're consistently innovative & they collaborate with respectable brands to create amazing lovechild projects. For instance, in February 2012 their IN4MATIX: The Hawaiian Plantation Collection will drop & pays respect to the hardworking people who helped shape Hawaii's culture.

I'm looking forward to the upcoming IN4MATIX: The Hawaiian Plantation Collection since my grandparents worked in the plantation fields; I hope this collection serves as a remainder that where I am today was shaped by my grandparents labors of love.

JJ Dolan's

Pizza is probably the only food that I could eat on a regular basis & not grow tired of, especially if that pizza is from JJ Dolan's; in fact if I could afford it, I'd pay them a visit every time I was in Chinatown.

I love that JJ Dolan's utilizes social media to help their business, they tweet their daily pizza specials around lunch time which triggers a drool reaction that sometimes ends up on my smartphone. I also love that JJ Dolan's consistently executes flavorful handcrafted pizza + their casual atmosphere attracts businessmen, foodies & nearby college students; you never have to worry about being under or overdressed for a little slice of heavenly pizza.

I'm such a big fan of JJ Dolan's that I sometimes have daydreams about their pizza; one time I drove to Chinatown on my lunch break & brought an entire pizza back to my office. I politely offered a slice to my co-workers, while secretly hoping they would refuse my offer (thankfully, everyone did) & for the remainder of the day, my office continued to smell like one of my favorite eateries.

If you're looking for an Irish eatery with scrumptious New York style pizza in Chinatown, make sure JJ Dolan's is where you get your pizza fix.

Love, Kimiko Photo Shoot

I'm starting to fall in love with the idea that, "Life never goes exactly as you expected." The morning of my Love, Kimiko photo shoot, Amanda was feeling under the weather & her main concern was making sure I didn't get sick. So I did my part & gave Amanda a 16 oz Red Bull to make her feel better. Hey! They always make me feel better, by the way she felt better too :)

In the past year, there's been numerous occasions, I wanted to invent a machine that could print memories from my head & develop photos that I could hold & cherish forever. Unfortunately, science isn't my strongest subject & that's why I'm super grateful for the opportunity to do a photo shoot with the uber talented Amanda Kutaka of Love, Kimiko.

After looking through Amanda's Love, Kimiko photo albums, I wanted to do a photo shoot with her because she captures the essence of her models' personalities & always showcases their best features. Plus she's has the type of personality that puts you at ease (if you're nervous about being photographed) & I can truthfully say, I wouldn't trade driving an hour in the ridiculous summer heat (in search of the perfect location) for cooler summer conditions, cause life is what happens when you're too busy planning it.

If you're looking to expand your portfolio or capture the moments in your life worth documenting, keep Amanda of Love, Kimiko in mind. I promise, you won't be disappointed.

*Shout out to my {simply*awesome} sister for styling my attire & Amanda thank you again for making me feel relaxed & all of the inspiration!*

First Lady: The Movement 2nd Annual Expo

Lately, I've been seeing tons of my work wifey Riana, we've been busy living, breathing & planning for our upcoming event: 808 SPEAKERBOX, a fundraiser that will raise awareness about Hawaii's talented hip hop community. As much as we're pouring our hearts into our "love child", it was nice to help support another female-run organization: First Lady: The Movement for their 2nd Annual Expo which happened at Fresh Cafe.

First Lady: The Movement's 2nd Annual Expo featured a variety of local female businesses who are trying to empower their lives through positivity & help add cute clothes + accessories to your closets. My favorite part about the 2nd Annual Expo was finally being able to meet @itsAPEEZY & @jermel_lynn IRL + developing a really big girl crush on Kimie Miner. If you've never heard about Kimie Miner, make sure you YouTube her because you'll fall in love with her voice & talent.

Congratulations Donna & Rachel for another First Lady: The Movement event! Keep up the good work & continue promoting positivity for young female movers & shakers.

Boots and Kimos

I've heard stories about Boots & Kimos pancakes with their legendary Macadamia Nut Sauce but never had the opportunity to try it for myself + I never made a real effort to journey to Kailua & sample this breakfast sensation.

I've never been a big fan of breakfast; I understand that its the most important meal of the day, but I'd much rather eat lunch or dinner to jumpstart my morning. Since I'm being honest, I admit that whenever I do eat pancakes, nothing satisfies my craving like a short stack from Liliha Bakery; every bite melts in my mouth & warms my heart.

I was hesitant to "cheat" on Liliha Bakery & sample a short stack from Boots & Kimos; after all there's been a handful of occasions, where I ventured to an eatery because of word-of- -mouth reviews & left disappointed. However, I'm happy to announce that my morning visit to Kailua with le boyfriend was a success & big shout out to everyone who recommended ordering a short stack with Mac Nut sauce, it was definitely worth the long wait. There aren't enough words to describe how sweet & savory their white Mac Nut sauce compliments those fluffy pancakes; its a meal you have to experience for yourself.

If you're craving a tasty meal & have some time to kill in the morning, a trip to Boots and Kimos is where you can go for a luxurious breakfast at an affordable price. Don't forget to order a short stack pancakes with their legendary Macadamia Nut sauce & remember they only accept CASH!

Rocky's Coffee Shop

There's two places that immediately flood my mind with memories of my childhood: Pearlridge movie theaters reminds me of movies with my grandpa & Rocky's Coffee Shop reminds me of early mornings eating breakfast with my grandma.

Even though, Rocky's Coffee Shop got a make-over, its nice to know that you always depend on their delicious food & friendly customer service which hasn't changed over the years. My favorite part about eating breakfast on the weekends with my grandma was Rocky's fried rice omelette; its a mouth-watering combination of fried rice, green onions, Portuguese sausage & eggs.

This mouthful of deliciousness is big enough to satisfy two people, but I promise no one judges you if conquering a "brick"of fried rice omelette is what your heart desires. The best part about this breakfast dish is a hot beverage: coffee or hot chocolate is automatically included.

Some of my dearest childhood memories revolve breakfast with my grandma & if you wanna enjoy the most important meal of the day without breaking the bank, check out Rocky's Coffee Shop located in Waipahu & if you're not sure what to order you can't go wrong with their fried rice omelette.

*Make sure you bring cash, since that's the only form of payment they accept*

APB Skateshop

I'm the type of person that gets excited about the simple things in life, especially when it's FREE. It doesn't matter if its a food or product sample; if its FREE I want it. That's one reason why I LOVE using the Yelp app on my smartphone, because I never know when I'll get a check-in offer; but they always makes me feel like I hit the jackpot. My last Yelp check-in offer: a FREE APB Skate die-cut vinyl sticker with any purchase.

Growing up, I wanted to be a skater, but I was so scared of breaking my arm that I never learned (to this day, I haven't broken a single bone). Although, I can't maneuver a skateboard, I'm attracted to skaters' confidence & their continued perseverance to execute a skate trick & probably the reason most of my guy friends & baby brother skated on smooth surfaces around the island.

Its unlikely that I'll master an Ollie (one of the most basic skate tricks), but you'll probably find me rummaging through skateshops, in search of the perfect birthday/Christmas present for my brother & sometimes myself. The APB Skateshop (located next to world famous A'ala International Skateboard Park) is a tiny skate shop filled with everything a skater could possibly need: clothes/gear to dress you from head-to-toe, parts to replace your board & its a skateshop run by skaters & made for skaters.

So if you're interested in becoming a skater or you're already tearing up the skate parks; APB Skateshop is the perfect place to support local businesses & hangout with some of the friendliest skaters around the island. Also if you happen to run into a soft-spoken employee named John aka "Silent John", be sure to thank him for working hard to provide skaters a one stop shop for everything skateboarding.

*Don't forget to "check-in" with your favorite social media network*

"The Human Imagination" Soft Opening

During Memorial Day weekend, I attended FLUX Hawaii's "Talk Story Sessions", just so I could listen to the guys who created In4mation. It was such a great experience being able to hear their story & struggles + people who attended were given an opportunity to ask the guys questions. I remember my ears perked up when Ryan Arakaki, mentioned their upcoming project: "The Human Imagination", ever since Memorial Day weekend, I've anxiously been awaiting for the In4mation team to open their newest store.

I'm always miss out on all the super fun First Friday events due to work; but I'm glad that I sacrficed a few hours of sleep to enjoy my 1st First Friday & "The Human Imagination's" soft opening this past weekend.

There's something intoxicating about witnessing someone else's dreams being manifested into reality & when I first walked into "The Human Imagination", I felt like I was walking on a dream. The interior of the store feels like you're walking inside Rhandy Tambio's mind (whose the creativity behind In4mation) & the essence of the store is about whatever the mind creates.

Congratulations to the guys behind In4mation! All of the hard work & energy invested into "The Human Imagination" definitely paid off. I can't wait to see all of the wonderful things "The Human Imagination" creates.

Here's some of my favorite pictures from The Human Imagination soft opening:
