No Sleep For Dreamers: Joel Gaspar Solo Art Exhibition

This past BROADCAST was my favorite of 2011! There was an amazing line-up of bands & it was my good friend Joel Gaspar's solo art exhibtion. Congratulations Joel! All of your hard work & stress finalizing the event paid off! This is only the beginning of amazing things to come :D

If you've ever met Joel, you'll discover he's a very humble person, especially about his graphic design skills (love that about him) & even though I was exhausted from a long week of restless nights (due to insomnia), I wouldn't miss his first solo art exhibition for the world.

I'm so happy I attended this event, it was absolutely mind-blowing; there were giant canvases of Joel's artwork displayed around Next Door. But my favorite parts of the event was hearing live music + dancing with the energetic crowd, finally meeting Matt Ratt IRL & catching up with night owl Tracy Chan.

My RedBull wore off & exhaustion caught up with me after Kings of Spade performed (my new favorite band) & all I could think about was my warm bed. Just as I was leaving Next Door, Matt Ratt spun upbeat music & I couldn't stop moving my feet. I kept dancing until I was out of breath & Kevin was tired of hearing me scream, "That's my song!"

PS- I wanted to give a BIG shout out to Next Door for letting Joel Gaspar have a solo art exhibition (just another reason you're one of my favorite venues).

MenageA3: BLING Teaser

This was the first MenageA3 that I was excited to dress in theme; I wore a gold sequin mini dress & gold heels; I felt like a walking gold disco ball! My feet hurt from dancing like a maniac in between peepshow performances, with the superhandsome Cheyne & Chris photographers of Firebird Photography (but it was definitely worth it :)

In case you missed last night's event, here's a teaser & be sure to look out for more pictures & review later this week.

THE BIG BIG BANG! : Moving Forward

For a long time I struggled with my past which prevented me from growing as a person; however, these past few weeks, I've worked towards moving forward. But there was one last thing I needed for closure.

Last night, everything fell into place after I finally heard the truth from someone. It's because of that conversation, I understand the importance of having trust & open communication in any relationship. Those two components must be consistent & without them, the foundation of any relationship crumbles.

Some people think accomplishing something significant requires a medal, certificate or something they can physically touch; but I believe no matter how small the accomplishment, it can have a profound impact as well.

Shokudo Date with Aly

Since 2011 started, I felt like I joined the circus, since I've juggled the following commitments: 3 jobs, being a full-time student, my boyfriend (aka my blog) + I recently started a Marketing & PR internship. Also I'm currently in the process of planning a Japan benefit concert. However, in the past few weeks my life has slowed down & because of this down-time I was able to have a lunch date with another busy bee Aly Ishikuni, vocalist of ALT/AIR .

I mentally counted down the days until my lunch date with Aly since I've been craving Shokudo's Chicken Karage Bento which is only serves during the day. But the main reason I looked forward to my lunch date is because it's been forever since I connected with a friend & didn't feel rushed. Which is why I felt giddy as a schoolgirl when Aly & I discovered that neither of us had immediate plans for the remainder of the afternoon.

I love that I'm always able to depend on this Japanese restaurant to deliver exceptional customer service & delicious food. Shokudo is the perfect atmosphere to reconnect with friends over lunch, go on a romantic date with someone special or enjoy something sweet (Honey Toast) to celebrate any occasion.

PS- Thanks Aly for amazing conversation & being an awesome date!

Mail Me Art Project

My mind is always racing with thoughts & ideas which makes it really difficult for me to fall asleep at night. Since I'm usually awake while the rest of the world is sleeping; I use this time to work on projects that keep me sane & my latest project is Mail Me Art (inspired from Darren Di Lieto's idea).

One of my favorite simple pleasures is receiving snail mail from someone I love (it's also 1,000x better than getting another bill), I also I love keeping in touch with friends & family through letters. Something magical happens whenever I write my thoughts unto paper, I find this process calms my hyper-active mind.

I usually spend a couple hours writing each letter & wanted the recipient to get excited about before they read what's inside. Which is why I'll decorate the outside of the envelope/package with magazine clippings, flyers I collect & doodles. Its my heartfelt way of telling the other person that no matter the distance between us, you're still an important part of my life.

Hawaii Social Media Seminar

Last month, I had to decide which costly event I would attend: a chance to go whale watching (something I've always wanted to do) OR attend the Hawaii Social Media Seminar. I was torn between those events especially since humpback whales only visit the Islands for a short time. But my older, wiser & extremely good-looking cousin Keanie convinced me to attend the seminar since it would be useful in my future; I'm really glad I followed his advice.

To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect with my very first social media seminar but it was definitely worth missing those humpback whales! I learned something useful from each segment of the seminar, gained insight & new perspectives from each of the speakers + I had the chance to schmooze with some up & coming tweeters!

The Hawaii Social Media Seminar was a super informative & fun experience, everyone who attended was able to learn tips & tricks from successful "Yodas" in their respective fields. Plus the Tweet-Up was the perfect opportunity to network with like-minded individuals & a wonderful way to finally meet people you on Twitter IRL.

If you missed today's Social Media Seminar, make sure you buy tickets to Technology News Bytes' upcoming social media seminar in October. After talking to Sanna Thuresson she informed me that October's event is gonna be bigger & even better.
