You can tell when I’m REALLY excited about something, because I’ll coordinate my outfit way in advance. My blog interview with Apartment3 was no exception; the positive buzz about the bar, lounge & restaurant is featured in numerous articles & the long list of celebrity sightings, made me giddy as a school girl. On August 5th, I had the opportunity to interview Apartment3 co-owner Flash Hansen. Despite DJ-ing for Hot 93.9’s early morning radio show, Flash was energetic & engaging throughout the interview.
Even though Apartment3 has been doing very well, Flash insists, "we're still growing & I don't think we're successful yet." I asked him to define success, he briefly mentioned the business aspect & changes his focus on the customer; whether they're having a good time & if they like the place. With the definition of success based on the customers' experience, it’s clear to see why Apartment3 recently celebrated its one year anniversary.
Apartment3 has the perfect combination of sophistication without being pretentious, which goes beyond the restaurant's atmosphere. When asked, "What's a typical night like at Apartment3?" I discovered that Flash personally handles the day-to-day tasks: checks reservations, does call backs for that night, deals with seating & staggering times so the kitchen & staff aren't overburdened. Although, he's a manager, Flash takes on the following roles: host, waiter, bus boy & bartender, which keeps him informed on making decisions & gives him a greater appreciation for the staff.
One of Apartment3's goals is to give people a reason to come back; starting this month Apartment3 is going to kick off two monthly events: MenageA3 & Munch.
- MenageA3 starts August 21st, this will be a monthly Cherry Blossom Cabaret event. Each month will have a different theme, that Cherry Blossom Cabaret will do a performance. The theme for August: Glitz & Glamour.
- Munch starts August 26th & will occur the last Thursday of every month. An off-menu dinner will be created & based around the liquor. The liquor for the month of August is rum. Apartment3 Executive Chef Robert McGee will talk about each dish & Mixologist Joey Gotttesman from Better Brands, will talk about the cocktail. Munch will be a limited seating event, be sure to make reservations early.
